Dr. V. Papasotiropoulos is a Professor of Genetics and Plant Breeding in the Department of Crop Science at the Agricultural University of Athens. He holds a PhD in Genetics from the University of Patras and is a graduate of the Agricultural University of Athens. He was a Marie Curie Fellow at the Roslin Institute (UK) and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Rutgers University (USA) from 2001 to 2005.
His research focuses on the genetic improvement of crop species using classical and molecular methods to address challenges posed by climate change and to develop superior genotypes with improved qualitative and quantitative traits. He is a Board Member of the Hellenic Scientific Society for Plant Breeding and a member of the European Association for Research on Plant Breeding (EUCARPIA).
He has authored over 40 scientific publications and has participated in numerous scientific conferences and meetings. Additionally, he has coordinated or contributed to several national and international research projects.
Since May 2021, he has served as Vice President of the Patras Science Park. He is also a Management Committee member of the COST Action CA22161: “Future of Plant-Based Food: Bridging the Gap of New Proteins and FLAVOURsome (FLAVOURsome).”
