Lina G. Mendoni was born in Athens. She graduated from the\u00a0Arsakeion School in Psychiko, and acquired Bachelor\u2019s degrees in\u00a0Classical Philology and History and Archaeology at the University of\u00a0Athens. In 1987, she attended a pre-doctoral course at Maison de\u00a0l\u2019Orient in Lyon as a C.N.R.S. scholar, and in 1988 she was awarded her\u00a0PhD in Archaeology cum laude by the University of Athens. In the\u00a0same year, she also received a scholarship from the British\u00a0Archaeological School at Athens for a post-doctoral study on ancient\u00a0Greek onomastics in Oxford. In 1989, she became a member of the\u00a0research staff at the Institute of Greek and Roman Antiquity (now\u00a0Institute of Historical Research) of the National Hellenic Research\u00a0Foundation, where she still serves as a Principal Researcher. Lina Mendoni is a member of several domestic and foreign academic\u00a0organizations, societies and unions. She is also a leader or member of\u00a0scientific committees in the context of European and international\u00a0research programs. Her academic interests include ancient Greek epigraphy, history and\u00a0topography, the study of landscape as a cultural good, the protection, promotion and management of cultural heritage, the theory and politics
of Culture. She is the author of monographs and numerous articles published in\u00a0international scientific journals, conference proceedings and collective\u00a0volumes. She has also co-edited five collective volumes. She served as a Special Scientific Advisor to the Hellenic Ministry of\u00a0Environment, Planning and Public Works from 1994 to 1997, and to theHellenic Ministry for the Aegean from 1997 to 1999. From March 1999 to March 2004 Lina Mendoni was Secretary General of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, and from November 2009 to\u00a0January 2015 of the Ministries of Culture and Tourism, Culture and\u00a0Sports, and Education and Religious Affairs, Culture and Sports\u00a0successively.<\/p>

She is married to Professor Panagiotis Doukellis, and has a son, Nicolas\u00a0Doukellis, who is a lawyer specializing on financial crime. Lina Mendoni has received several honors, among which:\u00a0
1. The Medal Commendatore (II Clase), Ordine della Stella della\u00a0Solidariet\u00e0 Italiana by the President of the Italian Republic for her\u00a0contribution to the cultural relations between Greece and Italy\u00a0(2003), 2. The Office of Archon Treasurer by the Patriarch of Alexandria for\u00a0her constant support and assistance to the throne of Saint Marc\u00a0(2014), 3. The Medal of the Order of St. Catherine by the Archbishop of\u00a0Sinai for her contribution to the protection of the cultural assets of\u00a0the Monastery of Sinai (2010), 4. The Grand Cross of the Holy Metropolis of Messinia by the\u00a0Metropoitan of Messinia for her contribution to the protection of
the cultural heritage of the region (2016).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
