Panagiotis Nikas was born in Kentro Avias (at the Mani region) in 1950. He\u00a0 studied Literature and Political Science at the National and Kapodistrian\u00a0 University of Athens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

For many years he worked as a highschool teacher in Kalamata. Since the start of his career he has been an active member of the teachers\u2019\u00a0 unions and was repeatedly voted for by his colleagues as their\u00a0 representative in numerous elections.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

He had been elected as a member of the Prefectural Council of Messinia for\u00a0 twelve consecutive years. For seven of those years he held the position of\u00a0 Deputy Prefect. Also he served as the Chairman of various Prefectural\u00a0 Committees and also as the Chairman of the Prefectural Council.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

He had been elected as the Mayor of Kalamata in 2006 (4-year term), in\u00a0 2010 (4-year term) and in 2014 (5-year term). In 2011 he was elected as the\u00a0 first President of the newly established Regional Union of Municipalities of\u00a0 Peloponnese.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Panayiotis Nikas was elected as the new Regional Governor of Peloponnese\u00a0 and assumed office on the 1<\/span>st<\/span> of September 2019.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

He is married to Anastasia Militsi, PhD, Head of the National Archives of\u00a0 Messinia and has three sons: Vangelis, an Electrical and Computer Engineer\u00a0 with a PhD, Elias a Medical Doctor assistant University Professor and\u00a0 Nicholas a Civil Engineer, <\/span>MSc.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
