Thanasis Kontogeorgis is the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, since June 2023. His main areas of responsibility cover the monitoring and coordination of the government’s work with emphasis on the reform program. He coordinates the National Strategy for Regional and Local Development, as well as horizontal policies that integrate with the National Strategy and local development plans.
He served for four years as Secretary General for the Coordination of the Government. His portfolio included the planning and coordination activities for the implementation of key governmental policies, the European Enhanced Surveillance Program and the National Resilience and Recovery Plan. He has been particularly involved with crisis management plans, institutional and operational reinforcement of the coordination structures with emphasis on strengthening intra-governmental collaboration. During the economic adjustment programmes, until 2014, he served as Adviser to the Greek Government, providing support on legal, public policy and strategy issues, while he actively participated in the negotiations between the government and the European Commission, IMF and ECB.
He is a lawyer at the Supreme Court and the Council of State. He graduated from Athens College and the Law School of the University of Athens and holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from Harvard University (Master in Public Policy-Harvard Kennedy School of Government). He is married and has two children.
