Mr Athanasios Papadopoulos is the President of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Western Greece and Mayor of Kalavryta.

Mr Papadopoulos has worked systematically, for thirty years, for the reconstruction of the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Kalavryta in the effort to support of the income of farmers and breeders in the region of Kalavryta and the wider region, contributing decisively to the development and promotion of EAS Kalavryta to one of the most important cooperative organizations in the country.

His tenure in the Municipality of Kalavryta is associated with a number of important projects, development initiatives and actions that contributed to the development and promotion of the Municipality of Kalavryta, making it an example of efficient and effective local governance.

He was elected for the first time as a Member of Parliament of Achaia with PASOK in the 2009 National Elections. Member of the Standing Committees of the Greek Parliament, National Defence and Foreign Affairs, Production and Trade , for the period 2009- 2012.

During the years 2012-2016 he was instrumental in the establishment and construction of a new cheese plant in the area of Amfilochia, AMFIGAL.
