Born in 1953 in Trikala, Greece, G. Yannoussis attended Varvakeio High School in Athens and went on to study Civil Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. He completed postgraduate studies in Regional Développement at the «Panteion’s Institute for Regional Development», and Rural Development and Planning at «Paul Valery University» and the «Centre International des Hautes Etudes Agronomiques Méditerranéennes» in Montpellier, France. In 1984 he moved to Brussels where he served as an officer of the European Commission at the General Directorate for Régional Policy. In the context of his functions he dealt with Greece’s co-funded development programs, and then moved on as Head of Unit of the respective Departments of Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg the Tcheque Republic, Italy, Malta, Slovénia and Portugal. From August 2012 to October 2014 he was apointed Secretary General for Public Investments and European Structural Funds in the Ministry of Developement in Athens, Greece. Married to Nina Commeau with whom they have four children : Dimitris, Sophia, Cristina and Vasilis
