Christos Tarantilis

Member of the Parliament, Chairperson of the Hellenic Parliament’s Committee on Research and Technology, Professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business

Christos Tarantilis (Exarch of Athens, 31 May 1973), is a Greek politician and university professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business. He is a member of the Greek Parliament with the New Democracy, as a Member of State, since the parliamentary elections of 2019. He is also Chairman of the Special Standing Committee on Research and Technology in the Hellenic Parliament, Member of the Standing Committee on Production and Trade, Vice-Chairman of the Friendship Parliamentary Group of Greece – United States of America and President of the Greece – Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group.

From January to February 2021, he served as Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesperson. He studied Mathematics at the University of Patras, where he received his degree in 1997 with the recitation of the oath during the graduation ceremony. He did a Masters in Business Research at the London School of Economics (LSE), receiving an MSc in 1998. In 2002 he received a PhD in Business Research from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). In 2003, he was elected Lecturer in the Department of Administrative Science and Technology of the Athens University of Economics and Business (OPA), in 2008, Associate Professor and in 2013, full Professor. In 2013, he was simultaneously elected President of the Department of Administrative Science and Technology of the OPA. He has also been the Director of the “Operational Research and Decision Systems” research unit at the same University for a decade.

In addition, he was a member of the editorial board of the prestigious American magazine “Networks” (publishing house Wiley), chairman and member of the committees of many international scientific conferences in the field of management science, entrepreneurship and innovation. He was appointed Secretary of Strategic Planning and Communication of New Democracy in January 2017 and since then participated in the close staff of ‘Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ associates until the parliamentary elections of 2019. In the 2019 Greek parliamentary elections, he was elected Member of Parliament with New Democracy.

He is Chairman of the Special Standing Committee on Research and Technology, Member of the Standing Committee on Production and Trade and Vice-Chairman of the Greece-United States of America Parliamentary Friendship Group. He was Secretary to the Standing Committee on Educational Affairs and Member of the Constitution Revision Committee. In the reshuffle of January 4, 2021, Christos Tarantilis took over as Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Representative of the Hellenic Republic. On February 28, 2021, he resigned from the position of Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Representative, citing family reasons.
