Nikos Koutsias, environmentalist, is Professor at the Department of Sustainable Agriculture (formerDepartment of Environmental Engineering) of the University of Patras, where he gives courses in remote sensing, GIS, spatial analysis and informatics. He had a post doctorate position at Geographic Information Systems division (GIS) in the Department of Geography of the University of Zurich. He has been working in the field of remote sensing and GIS with special emphasis on wildland fires, forestry, ecology and natural hazards for the last 25 years. More specifically, he develops algorithms for automatic burned land mapping with satellite data and he works with time series satellite data for constructing phenological patterns among others. He has participated in national and European projects and has several publications in journals, books, and international conferences. He has editorial activities and he participates in the editorial board of few journals. Finally, he is the recent recipient of a Marie Curie Individual Scholarship. Remote Sensing, GIS and Spatial Analysis (Geoinformatics) of wildland fires, natural hazards and disasters, land use/land cover mapping, phenology from satellite data, time series.
