George Iliopoulos is Full Professor of Palaeontology & Stratigraphy in the Department of Geology at the University of Patras. He is also the Scientific Coordinator of Chelmos – Vouraikos UNESCO Global Geopark, and member of the Coordination Committees of the European and Global UNESCO Global Geoparks. After completing his undergraduate studies in the Department of Geology of the University of Athens he did his Doctoral studies in the Department of Geology, University of Leicester, UK. His main research interest is the study of fossils and their palaeoenvironment, the stratigraphic study of Mesozoic and Cenozoic sequences, the study of geodiversity and the protection of geological heritage.
He has published more than 80 scientific papers in International Scientific peer-reviewed Journals and edited book volumes, and has presented more than 230 oral or poster presentations at scientific conferences. He has participated in more than 35 research projects, being the scientific coordinator in 13 of them.
