Ioannis Sarakiotis was born in Lamia, the capital city of the Regional Unity of Fthiotida, and that of Central Greece Region. He is a graduate of the School of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, also possessing a master’s degree on Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE), Hellenic Open University. He has also worked as a Lawyer till September 2015, when he was initially elected to represent the citizens of Fthiotida electorate district at the Hellenic Parliament. During 2015-2019, Ioannis Sarakiotis served as a Secretary at the Hellenic Parliament, while on July 7th, 2019, was reelected as an MP for Fthiotida. He has also been a member of numerous Parliamentary Committees, such as for instance that of Research and Technology, while on September 9th, 2020, he has been appointed as Deputy Chief of the Development & Investments, responsible for the task of Research and Technology within his party, following a relevant mandate taken by the former Prime minister and former President of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, Alexis Tsipras. In 2023, he was again elected, whereas in October 2023, he has been appointed as the Head of the Department of Justice within his party, following a relevant mandate taken by the President of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, Stefanos Kasselakis. Currently, Ioannis Sarakiotis serves his party through the honorary position of the Coordinator of Monitoring and Controlling Governmental Work Committees within SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance in congruence with a relevant mandate taken by its leader.
