Kostas Spanoulis
President of the Panhellenic Association of Agricultural Photovoltaics (PSAF)

Kostas Spanoulis was born in Larissa, Greece in 1962. He studied Civil Engineering at the Technological Institute of Larissa, however his passion about his family’s land and crops led him to follow a career in the primary sector as a farmer.

In with parallel with farming, he has held various positions related to the primary sector. He has been an active member of Agricultural Cooperatives Unions, Pinios Organization for Land Reclamation and vice president of Larissa’s Industrial Tomato Producer’s Union.

Kostas has served the Prefecture of Larissa as Consultant on Agricultural Development issues (2004-2006) and elected regional councilor (2006-2010). From 2008 to 2010 he was also nominated Sectoral Prefect of Larissa in charge of Agriculture & Administration handling a portfolio of EU co-funded agricultural and environmental programs (fighting water pollution from agricultural nitrates, organic farming, protection of indigenous species etc).

Since 2013, Kostas Spanoulis is President of the Panhellenic Association of Agricultural Photovoltaics (PSAF), the energy association with the highest membership count, representing farmers and stakeholders from all corners of Greece and the Panhellenic Association of Agricultural Issues (PSATH).

Both Associations are dedicated to fostering the presence of agriculture in rural areas, encouraging the rejuvenating of the sector and supporting the production of safe and qualitative products. PSAF and PSATH with their continuous commitment have paid a significant role for the participation of greek farmers in the national renewable energy sources mix and the reduction of production costs through partnerships with key stakeholders.

Since 2016 Kostas Spanoulis has decided to replace his typical cultivations and grow trees in the heart of flatland. He was the first in Greece to apply the innovative high density planting technique on almonds, growing 5 times more trees/acre and creating a new microclimate in the area.

Since 2022 he is also president of “Karpologio” an Agricultural Cooperative and that innovates in almond production and processing.
