Nikolaos Andritsos

Assistant Professor, Food Safety Department of Food Science &  Technology, University of Patras

 

Nikolaos Andritsos graduated from the Department of Food Science and Technology (currently Dept. of Food Science and Human Nutrition) of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) in Greece. He was awarded two merit-based full-time scholarships from the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation for post-graduate and doctoral studies in AUA, which he successfully completed and obtained an M.Sc. degree in Food Science and Technology and Human Nutrition, specializing in “Food Quality Management and Hygiene Assurance Systems” (i.e., ISO standards and HACCP-based management systems), and also earned a Ph.D. diploma in Agricultural Sciences in the field of “Food Microbiology and Hygiene”, specializing in “Microbiological Food Safety”.

Dr. Andritsos has nearly 20 years of research and professional experience since he has already participated from 2007 in 14 national and international competitive research and private initiative programs, which have received more than 3.5 million euros. His research interests are focused on the detection and control of foodborne pathogenic bacteria along with their pheno- and genotypic microbial responses by using molecular and culture-dependent methods and techniques. He is also interested in the antimicrobial susceptibility testing and antibiotic resistance profiles of bacterial pathogens with a public health concern isolated from foods (e.g., Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella spp., Campylobacter spp.). He has published more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals of Science Citation Index (SCI) that have received >300 citations (Google Scholar), whereas he has >40 proceedings in national and international conferences and symposia with judges. Dr. Andritsos is also a reviewer in more than 20 international scientific journals and serves as an editor in several of them.

Nikolaos is an active member of the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece (GCG), member of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) and the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). He has previously served as the Director of the Microbiology Laboratory and Head of Microbiological Research in Eurofins Athens Analysis Laboratories (2013-2022), while he has also been an Adjunct Professor (University Fellow) of Food Hygiene and Safety in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of the Aegean in Myrina, Lemnos, Greece (2017-2021). He is an Assistant Professor of Food Safety in the Department of Food Science and Technology of the University of Patras in Agrinio, Greece (2022-today).
